Inaccurate location sharing between iPhone/Android

I read that google maps was one of the best basic location sharing services to use between the two devices. I (iPhone) can see the other person’s location fairly accurately though with some lag, whereas for the android user... they see my location being in left field (literally), 20 miles another direction than the roadway I’m driving on. Becoming more of a stressor than a convenience.

The traffic pattern feature is nice though and seems to stay close to current conditions, ie. Wrecks, construction, weather, etc.
