Review from UPS driver
Considering the amount of resources a company like google has, its truly shocking at how primitive Google maps is considering what other apps have to offer. Route optimization for multiple stops* should have been a thing atleast 4 years ago. Anytime Ive got more than 7-8 addresses queued for delivery and try re-organizing them to optimize the path it bugs out and doesn’t change the order, making things confusing as hell and forcing me to re-start the app to clear the bug and spend another 5 minutes re-typing half a dozen addresses. Considering I have to deliver up to and over 180-200 places a day (mostly residential homes, but some routes have more businesses than homes and vice versa) 5-10 minutes of inputting and optimizing routes every 7-8 stops Ive done the math and its a disgusting amount of time wasted with this app. (granted this is only problematic when Im on a new route, thankfully it hasnt been much of a problem lately)
Its unfortunate there are to my knowledge 0 functional/working iOS apps that offer things like SIMPLE ROUTE OPTIMIZATION. Its a shame google has not put more consideration into this product with delivery drivers in mind. Id easily pay a hefty subscription for access to an iOS program that has more features with delivery drivers in mind. I’ll suggest 30$ a month for what an app like In Route does but that actually functions.
Here’s what Id pay that obscene price for:
1. Route optimization for atleast 5-10 stops within a certain distance radius. Im not expecting to be able to put 20-30 stops in that span over a few quarter miles and have it optimized Im talking maybe stops within the size of 2 neighborhoods. All I need is to be able to optimize my path through one neighborhood and to the next (e.g. if I have 8 streets to deliver to in one neighborhood, I need to be able to optimize atleast 9 stops. Thats optimization for the 8 streets in the first neighborhood that ends with a path to my next neighborhood where I can repeat the process and have 8 more stops optimized the last which would simply direct me to my next area.)
2. An improved search feature!! If the last 200 places Ive been (no exaggeration here) are in the same city and within 1 mile of eachother, what are the chances my next location is going to be in another bloody state? How hard is it to prioritize/limit search results based on proximity here????
In short, the ability to filter searches so I dont have to wade through the dozens of streets with similar names in other cities/states.
Optimizing search results based on proximity to previous searches would just be a cherry on top here.
3. Thats mostly everything I can think of off the top of my head, Im mostly willing to pay a small subscription for primitive route optimization feature, the more complex that feature becomes the more Im willing to pay monthly. I sincerely hope google considers this review. Please let me know why this cant be done.
