Major downgrade
Until the recent update, I used Google Maps more than any other app. I would consult it whenever I came across a place name in the news; I used it to search local businesses; I used it to explore the world. It used to be that you could tap on most any location and you would be presented with a host of information from census data to Wikipedia links for the spot. It was awesome. You could tap on a town outside Rome to see if it warranted a day trip on your vacation with the easily presented info—then you could get directions for how to get there from where you were staying. No more. Now when you tap a random place (no matter how major the place), you get a weather report, coordinates, and a “plus code,” which is about as useless as anything I can imagine. Now, I use Google maps strictly for directions. This used to be a 5-star near perfect app. I told everyone about it, such as friends, family, colleagues, and students. Over the last couple weeks I’ve been discouraging people from using what had been an ideal app since apparently fewer features and less information is better...oh, but you can play Where’s Waldo on April Fools Day. Sooooo useful. Hate it.
